We are a play based program, pulling also from the Reggio Emilia approach on children’s development and learning. We believe every child is capable, strong and resilient, rich with wonder and knowledge. Branches Preschool and Childcare focuses on the importance of the relationships between the child, their peers, teachers, family and community.
The teacher is not viewed as the source of all knowledge, but as a co-collaborator with the child, encouraging exploration of the child’s interests. Each day at Branches looks a bit different as we allow the children’s interests to guide us. We believe that children should be allowed to develop at their own pace and when children’s bodies and brains are ready. Children are intrinsically motivated to learn! We believe that by having choice in play, they learn and grow in their own unique way. This develops important skills that lay the foundations for reading, writing and mathematics, problem-solving and decision-making, social and emotional growth and many other skills needed throughout their lives. We believe that forcing early academics is damaging to a child’s development and we place a huge importance on the social and emotional development of each child.
“We believe that by having choice in play, children learn and grow in their own unique way.”
